Anna Maria Island is famous for its sugar-white beaches, turquoise Gulf waters, and laid-back island lifestyle. But every now and then, it’s fun to trade a beach chair for a day of exploration.

Recently, my family and I packed up the car and made the two-hour drive to SeaWorld Orlando. From feeding stingrays and watching majestic orcas to seeing sharks, dolphins, sea turtles, and manatees up close, it turned into one of those days we’ll be talking about for a long time.

SeaWorld Orlando is approximately two hours from Anna Maria Island, making it one of the easiest major attractions to visit during your Gulf Coast vacation. Depending on traffic and where you’re staying on the island, the drive is typically between 115 and 130 miles.

For families staying a full week, it’s an easy day trip that lets you experience another side of Florida before returning to the beach that evening.

While SeaWorld has several thrilling roller coasters, we found that younger children can easily spend an entire day enjoying the animal exhibits, aquariums, interactive experiences, and family-friendly shows.

For our family, watching the excitement on our daughters’ faces was easily the highlight of the day.
